 Operations Insights:

BDP delivers Advanced Regulatory Controls that benefit daily operations

BDP Inc. enhanced regulatory control strategies have been implemented at various gas processing plants to deliver improved product performance and increased plant stability.  These advanced strategies are typically configured directly in the DCS or PLC control system, using the native programming features available in the vendor software.  Implementing advanced control strategies directly in the DCS/PLC controller delivers robust and reliable control strategies for a minimal investment in process control engineering skills.  Sample advanced regulatory control strategies implemented by the BDP team are further described below.

Chiller Level Management

<> In many plants, inefficient chiller load control results in varying refrigerant level with vapor superheating or refrigerant carryover that has a negative impact on compressor performance.  BDP Inc. offers a Chiller Load Management strategy that responds to disturbances in the plant inlet rate and disturbances in the refrigeration system, acting rapidly to prevent carryover while always returning the chiller to efficient operation once the disturbance has been rejected.

Industrial Boiler Control

<> Traditional power plant applications for management of direct-fired boilers, including steam drum level control, can be applied to industrial boilers used in gas processing plants.  These BDP engineered strategies determine the steam demand based on the steam consumers to manipulate the DCS based Master Steam Header Pressure Controller.  The individual boiler firing rate, air-to-fuel ratio, excess O2 control, and three-element feedwater control strategies provide individual boiler management and coordinated control across multiple boilers.

Thermal Oxidizer Control

<> BDP engineered strategies have been successfully implemented to simultaneously regulate incinerator temperatures for emission control and regulate waste heat recovery duty for process control.  These automatic strategies significantly reduce the level of operator attention, provide rapid response to process upsets, and permit consistent attainment of emission reduction goals, while delivering a coordinated strategy for heat medium temperature control.

BDP Inc. offers process control consulting, advanced control strategy design and implementation, and system integration services to deliver overall control system performance enhancements.  Contact BDP Inc. for more information on similar control system services and process control improvements to enhance your plant operations today.
