Automation upgrades underway at two EOR sites

BDP Inc. is currently participating in automation upgrades at two Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) sites.  The automation project underway in west Texas includes PLC and field instrument upgrades for surface facilities across the oil field.  The automation project affects multiple sites including tank batteries for oil recovery, gas laterals to isolate CO2 and NGL gases, and water injection stations to handle water recovered with the oil production.  The automation upgrade at each site includes a new electrical building, new UPS equipment, a new PLC to replace existing PLCs and RTUs, new field instruments to replace both electronic and pneumatic devices that will be installed using new cable tray and new field wiring.  The individual PLCs at each site will be integrated using a radio network, and remotely monitored by the client’s SCADA system for overall control of wells and surface facilities.  The BDP team is providing detail instrument and electrical designs, equipment procurement services, system programming, technical support to the installation subcontractor, and commissioning services for the new PLC systems.

The BDP team is also providing engineering services to the Main Automation Contractor (MAC) at an EOR site in western Colorado.  The legacy control system will be migrated to the latest DCS architecture offered by the MAC.  The safety functions in the legacy control system will be segregated and moved to dedicated safety controllers.  The process control strategies will be migrated to new DCS controllers while re-using existing IO cards wherever practical.  The multiple control rooms will be integrated using a new fiber Ethernet network with new operating consoles that provide a view to the entire facility.  The DCS upgrade project includes distributed control panels for the three compression trains and two NGL trains located in the CO2 Recovery Plant at this oil production unit.

BDP Inc. acknowledges the opportunity to provide control system services for these projects and recognizes the confidence expressed by our clients.  We look forward to working closely with both the operating companies and the various contractors to successfully complete these projects.  Contact BDP Inc. for more information on these projects or similar control system services and process control improvements to enhance your plant operations today.
